Looking around

We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.
~ Anaïs Nin

It was painting that finally helped Churchill slow down and learn how to see. He had been so busy, so ambitious, that he had not cultivated the eye or the discipline to slow down and look at the world around him, at the ground beneath his feet, at the loved ones right in front of him. Artistic hobbies can do that for you.

  • This week’s artist is – Sara Schroeder – who I recently heard on an interview. She spoke about her transition from selling a little art on instagram to becoming a full-time working artist, and the growth she experienced during that process. Check out her website and instagram for even more!

  • What’s the funniest thing to paint outdoors? Hill areas.
  • This artist influenced how we think of trolls.
  • Hermosa Coffee is looking for artists for the Hermosa Art Market. It will be open to as many artists as can fit. There will be no fees or commissions. It’s currently planned for every last Sat of the month: 4/30, 5/28,6/25. Reach out to Lindsey (owner of Hermosa Coffee) for more info.
  • Stumbled across this idea of using the edge of notebooks for art and reference.
  • Especially liked the video in the link above – how have I never heard of fore-edge art?!
  • Create Art and Tea’s event calendar feels like it gets busier every time I look at it!
  • There are quite a few events available for everyone at the Durango Arts Center.
  • The Scrapbook Nook has a week full of classes and projects, if you’re looking for something creative to do. Call them to reserve your spot.
  • There’s live music scattered about town all week. See what’s available here.
  • Our customer appreciation day is coming up on Saturday! Do you have your bag ready?
  • It’s Spring Cleaning time! Do you have art supplies, tools, or other materials that you aren’t using? Drop them off at the Art Supply House and we’ll pass them along to organizations who support people through creative pursuits.  (Matthew has started gathering a box from his stash to pass along to someone who will put them to use.) We’re collecting until the end of the month.

It’s easy to overlook the things that are around us on a daily basis. In a recent email conversation, a friend pointed out how truly fortunate we are to live here – the talented artists working at Studio &, the bare tip of the iceberg of the talent shown at Create Art & Tea…. We live surrounded by amazing landscapes, with creative and talented artists around every corner. Pause, take a moment to appreciate where we live, and remember that the world also needs your art!

Cheers!
