What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.
~ Jane Goodall
Making things is kind of like making a cup of coffee. Let’s say you love making the perfect espresso—grinding the beans just right, timing the shot, getting that smooth, golden layer on top. But if the person you’re serving just wants a quick coffee with cream and sugar, they might not love your fancy espresso as much as you do. That doesn’t mean you should stop making great coffee! It just means you can find a way to make something you love and something they’ll enjoy—like a really amazing latte.

Being creative works the same way as making coffee. If you only make what you like, people might not pay attention. But if you only make what’s popular, your work won’t feel special. The best place to be is in the middle—where what you love and what people want come together. Maybe your espresso turns into a sweet affogato (espresso with ice cream!), or maybe there are people out there who do love espresso just as much as you. Find a way to share your work so that people will want to take a sip – because the world needs your art!
