Clutter is not just the stuff on your floor—it’s anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living.
~ Peter Walsh
Last week, we talked about spring cleaning our art supplies—and how giving away what no longer serves us can help spark someone else’s creative fire. But this week, I want to zoom out a little. Because clearing the way isn’t just about physical materials. It’s about creating space—mental, emotional, physical—for creativity itself to take root and grow.
- This week’s artist is – Jerico Woggon – an installation artist who lives in Pagosa Springs. See even more on his facebook and instagram!
- Ernst Neizvestny would have been 100 today!
- Mixing phosphorescent green with fluorescent colors.
- What a fun take on the color wheel – this is the gems color wheel.
- How long do people look at art in museums?
- What famous artists share your zodiac signs?
- From sketches to skyscapes – 2 examples of one artist’s process.
- Field theory – elusive but everywhere.
- How did they make cars fall apart in old movies?
- A life sized statue of a man and woman was recently found in Pompeii.
- Where do minor consumer holidays (like the one mentioned below) come from?
- Just for fun, Tuesday is “World Art Day“. After all – expressing emotions through colors and shapes, art captures the essence of life, sparking emotions and fostering connection without words.
Fun Fact: Wassily Kandinsky, one of the pioneers of abstract art, had a condition called synesthesia, which allowed him to hear colors and see sounds, influencing his vibrant and dynamic compositions.
- Head to the Durango Library to make some Agamographs from 4-5:30. (An agamograph, also known as a lenticular image, is art that uses optical illusion to create changes when you look at it from different angles.) You’re welcome to bring photographs or other prints you’d like to turn into an agamograph, or, you can create your own images or use images they’ll provide. For adults only.
- There’s a series of free poetry workshops at the Fort Lewis Mesa Library (11274 Highway 140, Hesperus) each Thursday in April from 6-7. Workshops will be led by local poet Barnabas Smith. No registration required.
- Go to Summit Church this Friday, from 4:30-7:30 for Spring Fling. A free community event! Join us for an exciting, family-friendly evening packed with games, activities for kids, food, live music, and more! They’re partnering with amazing community organizations like Powerhouse, Durango Dance, The Arc, and more to bring you a night of fun and connection. Bonus: Stop by our Summit Church tent to be entered into a raffle for a Nintendo Switch and other fantastic prizes! This is a great chance to meet new people, enjoy a fun-filled night with your family, and learn about Summit Church along with local resources that support our community.
- There are lots of live music events, open mics, live jam sessions, etc, scattered about the area throughout the week. There are too many to list here, so if you’re looking for such things, head over to WhatsHappeningDurango.com.
- There are classes/workshops/projects available at the 4 Corners Gem and Mineral Club, the Bayfield Library, Create Art and Tea, the Dancing Spirit Center for the Arts, the Durango Library, Durango Sustainable Goods, Let’s Letter Together, the MakerLab, Picasso & Vino, the Scrapbook Nook, Seed Studio, and the Durango Arts Center. There are a lot more things happening that I don’t include – so if you’re ever looking for something to do, start at WhatsHappeningDurango.com.
- Well, our clearance section is bursting at the seams—which, honestly, is not the plan. But hey, lucky you! That means deep discounts on some seriously great supplies that need to skedaddle so we can make room for shiny new arrivals. Come snag the deals before someone else beats you to it!
- One of the best things about framing is seeing the different pieces that come through the shop and hearing the stories behind them. These posters were a lot of fun and these reclaimed frames were the perfect option to display them!
It’s wild how something as simple as organizing your studio or deleting old reference photos from your phone can shift your whole internal atmosphere. Suddenly, there’s less noise. More clarity. You’re not just tidying up—you’re setting the stage. You’re making your life more responsive to inspiration when it arrives, and more capable of following through when it does.
Clearing the way is a kind of creative prep work. By letting go of what’s no longer serving your art—cluttered corners, old projects, distractions that drain instead of fuel—you’re not losing anything. You’re making room. Room for better ideas. Room for deeper focus. Room for new work that feels more aligned with who you are now. Your art needs space to breathe and the world needs your art!

PS. – This month is our Spring Clean art supply drive. So if you have materials, tools, or other supplies that you aren’t using – we’ll take them. Then we’ll pass them on to nonprofits or other organizations who can use them to improve other’s lives.
