I do not believe that your best creative work is done when you’re stressed out because you’re teetering on the edge of bankruptcy or other personal disasters. Just the opposite. You should set up your life so that it is as comfortable and happy as possible – and so that accommodates your creative work.
~ Susan Cain
I assume that you’re like me and you love making art! I find the process (generally) thoroughly enjoyable. Whether I’m sketching while sitting by down by the Animas on my lunch break, drawing from a still life or live model, or just doodling in the margins while brainstorming, it’s just fun. And, personally, that’s why I do it. I love the excitement of trying out new techniques and supplies, the pleasure of wrapping up a project, the thrill of searching for new inspirations, and the journey of seeing others’ works.
- Here’s another New Zealand Artist – Samuel Earp – I started following Sam’s work just a couple of weeks ago and immediately fell in love. Part of that is my interest in New Zealand but mostly it’s just appreciating his amazing paintings! If you enjoy painting and want to learn more, or are intimidated and want to start learning, Samuel has some great written and video tutorials. Take advantage of his generosity and learn as he goes!
- Taking a Breather – The Ace Mural – Two of us lead artists on the mural project had a birthday to celebrate this weekend so we enjoyed a break. However, if you happen to swing by you’ll notice that there are now even more details in the river. We’re now refreshed and ready to wield our paintbrushes again on Friday. #TownPlazaMural We’re still looking for volunteers, so if you’re interested in helping on the foreground images sign up to volunteer here. Know someone who might be interested in slinging some paint? Please forward this email on to them.
- Speaking of paint, we just got some “Portable Painter” watercolor palettes in stock. They’re a great travel palette that you get to fill with your own paints. I’ve been carrying one around for about a week and have been loving it! I took the opportunity to try out some new-to-me Daniel Smith colors. Not only is the paint awesome, but this travel kit might be replacing my old one…
- Just for fun – check out this great 6 minute stop-motion animated film. And if you enjoy that one and have a few more minutes, I recommend this one as a follow-up to see the infectious power (in a good way) of art and having fun.
- There are some big changes in the works within the Art Supply House. We’re tweaking some of the displays and decor, but that’s just the beginning. I’ll let you know more as we get closer!
Enjoy the journey this week. Make something for the fun of it. Play with your favorite supplies or try something new!
