Every minute of every hour of every day you are making the world, just as you are making yourself, and you might as well do it with generosity and kindness and style. ~ Rebecca Solnit |
I recently read this and thought it was worth sharing:
During my training, a supervisor once told me, “There’s something likable in everyone,” and to my great surprise, I found that she was right. It’s impossible to get to know people deeply and not come to like them. We should take the world’s enemies, get them in a room to share their histories and formative experiences, their fears and struggles, and global adversaries would suddenly get along. I’ve found something likable in literally everyone I’ve seen as a therapist.”
- This week’s artist is – Thomas Dambo – whose work I haven’t run across in a couple of years. Robin was recently taking some cardboard to the recycling bin at the store and saw the scrap pallets leaning against the wall and thought about Thomas’s giants (made from pallets and other recycled materials) and brought them to my attention. They’re too much fun not to share! Be sure to check out his website and instagram for more!

- Here are 9 tips for building a studio practice. I like #8.
- I suspect this advice for authors may be equally true for artists. We have to draw in viewers and give them something to dwell on.
- Mary Cassatt would have been 177 on Saturday!

- Bob Ross has inspired a lot of people to try painting and made it feel approachable. We often get requests for Liquid White and finally found a recipe for anyone who might want to make their own.
Lori Gottlieb wrote, “We are mirrors reflecting mirrors reflecting mirrors.” You get to decide what you see in those mirrors. Today, don’t let miserable people make you miserable. Instead, find something likable in each of them, find all the ways they aren’t so different from you. Find the good in people. You have to. Or, as Epictetus said, “You are only making unnecessary problems for yourself.” So much of an artist’s skill is seeing. You can choose what view you’re looking for. You can choose what to portray and point toward with your art. The world needs your art!
Cheers!
