Intro Line

You’ll never change your life until you change something you do daily. The secret of your success is found in your daily routine.~ John C. Maxwell

There have been a lot of bedtime stories read in my house over the last year, and plenty more to go in years to follow. Why do we tell our kids stories? Because they impart lessons. Because they water the seed of hope. Because it matters.

This week’s artist – Jeremy Miranda – whose work I recently stumbled across and thought it was warm and enjoyable. One curator said his work “always makes me want to build a fire, grab a blanket and watch the snow fall“. I dove into his instagram feed and appreciated seeing seasons change as I scrolled down to see even more!

  • The Art Supply House will be closing early tomorrow (Thursday) and closed on Friday. We’ll be back for regular hours on Saturday. See you next year!
  • Normally I have heard a lot about setting goals over the past 6 weeks. This year it’s only come up a couple of times. Have you set any goals for 2021? Here’s a guide for doing an annual review.
  • Perhaps you don’t want to set goals, but a word for the year would be a better fit.
  • Have you seen Pompeii’s food stand? I think it’s fascinating to see the original decorations preserved. It’s just something I made up, but I picture this in a setting like 11th Street Station, with a variety of these stands all surrounding a courtyard. 😀
  • 2020 Aerial Photography winners. I worked at a multimedia production studio and learned to fly a drone. I never helped get any shots as good as these!
  • What about a tiny building collection?
  • I just stumbled across this article about how we should stop taking our creativity so seriously.
  • Followed by this article about how it’s our creative vision, not our tools, that are the important part of our creative processes.
  • A commonly recurring conversation that I hear/participate in is about finding one’s artistic style. Here’s one artist’s advice. I always recommend that one make a lot of work, and then a style will emerge. It seems to me that a style is generally “discovered” rather than “created”.
  • This week’s featured products are, again, a collection of items on sale. We’ve got a few different categories on sale. Other than paint tubes and canvas deals, you’ll just have to swing by to check them out! Sales run through the end of this year. 😀

The bedtime stories we tell teach lessons, share thoughts and viewpoints, and fire up the imaginations. We are trying to teach our kids how important and special they area, and that they can make a difference. They can change the world. Longfellow wrote:

Lives of great men all remind us

We can make our lives sublime,

And, departing, leave behind us

Footprints on the sands of time…

I tell my daughter stories to inspire her. That’s what bedtime reading is about—not just tiring her out so she’ll go to sleep. I want her to know: she is special and she can have an impact. She can lead a wonderful life. She can leave her footprints on the sands of time.

Perhaps her footprints will be art. Or the impact she has through shared baked goods. Or a kind written word at just the right time. No matter how she ends up expressing herself, she can change the world for better through her art. Just like you can. The world needs your art!

Cheers!
