Babies are necessary to grownups. A new baby is like the beginning of all things – wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.~ Eda J. Le Shan |
What a year it’s been… my 2020 has flown by! Juggling different work schedules, not traveling much, and no camping/backpacking trips this year. Mostly because I’ve been adjusting to having a baby in the house. My little girl is celebrating her first birthday today! It’s amazing to think that the screaming amoeba who fit in her stocking last Christmas is the beautiful little girl crawling around my house this year.
- This week we’re featuring a type of art rather than a specific artist. Local artist Kim shared her zentangle piece shown above. Zentangle isn’t something that I mention often, though I love the concept behind it. (I do think that all you need to get started is a pen/pencil and some paper, however.) I’ve long thought that art making is a form of active meditation, and whole-heartedly agree with the creators of Zentangle that “You are more imaginative, talented and creative than you think. You will be amazed at what you can create.” Be sure to check out the Zentangle website or YouTube for more!
- The Art Supply House will be closing early tomorrow (Thursday) and closed on Friday. See you Saturday!
- The Strater is offering the Strater Suite Dining Experience – where parties of 4-10 people will get a private room in which to enjoy their meal. If you’d like to support some a local business and get out to eat, call 970-247-4431 to make your reservation now (this is a once in a lifetime opportunity).
- Want to check out Christmas lights? River Church has arranged a drive around town to see them, on the 24th from 5-9. Here’s some more info (like where to get the free hot chocolate).
- Here’s a plein air video on painting boats and water.
- I’ve traveled all over the contiguous US and the places that I best remember are the ones that I drew (not the thousands of photos I took). I agree with this author that drawing is the best way to remember.
- Just for fun – the comfort of a pencil.
- Check out the longest exposure photograph, ever.
- And here’s how to make your own 6-month exposure photograph.
- Here’s a round-up of some of the best photos of 2020.
- No specific items to mention this week. We have a few categories on sale until we close tomorrow, and a few others will be on sale when we reopen on Saturday. So if you’re looking to stock up on anything, you might swing by to check them out! 😀
I’m absolutely biased, but my daughter is awfully smart and funny. I’m looking forward to getting to know her better – having conversations with her, discovering what interests she has, and generally seeing how her life turns out. I plan to encourage her to pursue her creative interests, as I think that’s an important part of learning about ones-self.
I think the same is true for you, no matter how big of a kid you are. Creating is an important part of learning about yourself. I’ve heard it said that one writes to learn what they think, and I think that can be said of all creative pursuits. You don’t have to share what you make, but I think that you need to discover it for yourself. As always, the world needs your art!
Cheers!
