As Yourself

Never limit your mind; it is capable of great intelligence; or your heart; it is capable of extraordinary kindness; or your soul; it is capable of remarkable transcendence.
~ Matshona Dhliwayo

Marcus Aurelius Antonius was a Roman emperor. He served during a worldwide plague. We know him today mostly from his personal journals, which were never meant to be read by others. One of the lines he wrote was a reminder to himself about the upcoming day: The people I deal with today will be meddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous and surly.

Ugh…. Other people.

And yet, they are all we have. They are not even “other.” They are us. We are all part of one whole. They probably find us to be meddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous and surly.

The rabbi Hillel was once asked to explain the Torah. “Love thy neighbor as thyself,” he said, “all the rest is commentary.”

Everyone we meet is an opportunity for kindness, according to the philosopher Seneca. The fruit of this life is acts for the common good, Marcus said. That’s all that matters.

  • I ran across this week’s artist – Mantra – a few months ago and was immediately intrigued by his work. Murals have always caught my attention, even more so after being one of the lead artists on the Kroegers Ace mural. I thought these would be great images to share this week, and love that they depict local butterflies for each of the locations. Be sure to check out his website and instagram for more!

  • Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Whew… how’d it get here so quickly? The Art Supply House will be closed Thursday-Sunday, Nov 26-29 so that we can all spend time with family (even if only via video). As always, we’re thankful for you!

Just FYI, we received a double-sized order on Friday. So, as of right now, there are acrylic paints, canvas, gesso, Copics, pens, yarn, etc available. If you’re looking for something in particular, it’s a great time to swing by (or call) and see if it’s currently in stock!

It’s a strange time to be alive (but it beats the alternative!) Tomorrow is supposed to be a day set aside to reflect and be grateful for the good things in our lives. We appreciate you! The Art Supply House wouldn’t exist if it weren’t for you. Thank you so much for the words of encouragement and support – we appreciate the opportunity to help you in whatever way we can.

We truly think that art makes the world a better place – whether you’re making art or viewing it. That includes Your art! Now more than ever, the world needs your art!

Cheers!
