If you’re not grateful you’re not rich, no matter how much you have. ~ Sir John Templeton (billionaire investor) |
There’s a lot going on in the world: good, bad, and indifferent. No matter what your thoughts on the upcoming holiday, it’s worth having an external, fixed reminder to reflect on the good things in our lives. It’s so easy to get caught up in daily life – in the pending holiday rush – and not pause to appreciate what we have (or have had). Though it’s a national holiday, this is also a very personal one. It’s a chance, a reminder, for us as individuals to pause and think about our specific lives.
- This week’s artist is from Colorado – Cody Oldham – is 15 years old and well on his way to a great career as a professional artist. He focuses on wildlife and landscape paintings. Check out his work and learn more about him on his website.
- Other than the Black Friday event, the Scrapbook Nook will be closed the rest of this week.
- The Art Supply House will be closed this weekend, from Thursday-Sunday so that everyone can spend time with family and friends. See you on Monday!
- Speaking of schedules, if you’re thinking about getting something custom framed for a gift, don’t delay! Spots are already filling up as we approach the holidays. December 11th is the last day to get a custom order placed with a guarantee for Christmas delivery.
- I can’t say that I was surprised to learn that most museum goers only spend 10 seconds looking at each painting (which includes the info plaque.)
- The Community Thanksgiving Dinner is tomorrow at the fairgrounds. I hear there will be pie…
- The Durango Arts Centers’ Winter Solstice Invitational Artisans’ Market is running from November 22-December 23, 2019. Stop by Monday-Saturdays, from 10am-5pm.
- Be thankful for your siblings, not everyone gets the opportunity.
- Sometimes it just has to be done by Wednesday.
- Project Merry Christmas is offering gift wrapping in the Main Mall from Thanksgiving till Christmas.
- As part of the Christmas Town promotion, BID and the Strater Hotel are offering a FREE gift wrapping station from 12-3 each on the following Saturdays and Sundays: Nov 30-Dec1 (this weekend), Dec 14-15, Dec 21-22. Head to the Strater Hotel lobby and enjoy cookies and cocoa while guests are waiting. Wrapping is old fashioned style, with brown paper and string, then they stamp each package with the Christmas Town stamp, using red ink.
- The dawn of photography.
- Want to sing with Santa? Meet at TBK bank at 5:30 on Friday. Santa will be there at 6 (on a horse-drawn stagecoach) and caroling begins at 6:05 as everyone heads toward Buckley park for the (approx) 6:30 lighting of the Community Christmas Tree. Immediately following there will free hot chocolate and cookies.
- The final art contest of the year is currently running. Use your favorite art materials to show us what you’re most grateful for! Contest runs until December 13th. Can’t wait to see what you share with us!
- This week’s featured product are paint-by-numbers! Yes, they still make them (which is the most frequent comment that we hear). We have a range from little kits for kids up to a Starry Night re-creation.
You are on my list of “grateful fors”. The art store and frame shop are here to serve you and we are greatly honored when you give us that opportunity. While we love art supplies – we love chatting with you, hearing about your projects, and seeing your finished artworks even more. Thank you for that chance, for being you, and for sharing your art with us.
Cheers!
Matthew & the Art Supply House crew
