Teaming Up

Great partnerships make any job easier.~ Warren Buffett

It always amazes me how much planning, preparation, and work goes into wedding ceremonies (or any other kind). My little sister got married over the weekend – it was a beautiful ceremony and lots of fun. It was also a lot of work behind the scenes. She spent months making the decorations. Fortunately, there was a team of us working to make sure that everything went smoothly. Without a team, it wouldn’t have happened, or wouldn’t have been nearly as elegant of a ceremony. Which is true of so much of life – a great team makes it work out so much better.

  • This week’s artist is – Annette LeMaire – a local artist who creates amazing paintings in oils and pastels. If you’re looking for some amazing landscapes, or a conversation with a delightful person, be sure to swing by her studio. Learn more about her and see more of her art on her website or her facebook page.

  • There is a full week of classes at the Scrapbook Nook. Join the gals tomorrow at 1 to make Christmas Market Albums – perfect for gifts or displaying holiday memories. Then on Saturday at 10 they are continuing to make wall calendars! Tuesday at 1 there’s another chance to make Christmas-themed cards. (You’d think the holiday season was quickly approaching.) In October they’ve also added a series of open classes at 11am on Wednesdays!
  • Looking for something to do that isn’t necessarily Halloween-related? Three Springs is hosting their 13th Annual Fall Festival this Saturday from 11-2, complete with live music, a pumpkin patch, and more!
  • With the cool weather starting this made-from-scratch wool cloak is looking more cozy than ever!
  • The members’ exhibition at the Durango Arts Center is only going to be displayed through Friday, so if you haven’t stopped by to see what the talented members of our community have created, do so soon!
  • There are all kinds of Halloween events coming up over the next week. Trick-or-treating at a variety of locations, including downtown on the 31st from 4-6. (We’ll be participating!)
  • Additionally, there is the annual Rocky Horror Show at the Strater Theatre if that’s part of your holiday tradition, or you’re looking for a new one.
  • There are also lots of haunted houses if you’re looking for such – like the Nightmare on Elk Street, the Underground Halloween Ghost Tours
  • This building is a little different.
  • Here are some photos by Margaret Bourke-White, a photographer for both Fortune and LIFE.
  • Inktober is still going! Are you joining in the fun? Even if you haven’t done so yet, there is still time! The entire prompt list isn’t a requirement, but a suggestion. Pick your favorite prompts, start at today’s, or brew a pot of coffee and do them all! No matter what, grab some inky materials and play around. Here is more info and here are the prompts.

  • Our next art contest is still going… through Friday, so don’t delay too long! What are you going to do for the Draw Something contest? Check out the contest page on our website.
  • I’ve always been a bit of a rock gather (nothing so grand as an actual collection) so I completely agree that a stone is a marvelous thing.
  • This week’s featured products are ink pens, in honor of Inktober! It’s easy to think of a sketching/drafting pen and have Micron come to mind – at least for me, I’ve been using them for years. And while they make some amazing instruments, we also keep other options on hand. So for your pen and ink needs… check out our selection!

The wedding was also a great example of how a little bit of work over time adds up. One paper fan made each night for a few months adds up to a whole decorated wall. One line added to a drawing each night adds up to a completed drawing after a bit of time. Bigger projects are so much more manageable when taken one small step at a time. Especially when a team is working on them together. Who’s on your team?

Cheers!
