Once you start down the road of art and painting, it’s a drug. I’m not happy if I’m not painting.
~ Peter Campbell
…. to play with art supplies. Wait, it’s always that season! We have been having a blast – a whole new line of markers have arrived (that are only available a couple of places in the US!), Lexis has been adding to our window painting, and we’ve decorated the store for the holidays (there are 24 mini stockings scattered around, all saying different things). It’s been a lot of fun, at least after we survived over-eating last week.
- This week’s artist is another amazing local – Peter Campbell. You may have seen his work, he’s represented by a few different galleries around the west. I’ve always seen his landscapes and was delighted to recently discover his portrait work. In addition to being an amazing painter, Peter is also a really sharp guy and a delight to chat with, so don’t pass up the opportunity if one arises.
- The Scrapbook Nook had some awesome Black Friday sales – and this week they’re back to their regularly-scheduled classes: Simple Vintage Christmas Layouts at 1 on Thursday. (Have I mentioned that you get a discount whenever you join them for a class?)
- Tis Bazaar season! The Cowboy Church is hosting their first annual craft show this Saturday, December 1st from 8-2. You can see what they have at 1867 CO Hwy 172 (on the way to the airport). I do know that the ladies from the Scrapbook Nook will be there!
- I am still looking forward to seeing what the artists have available at this year’s Studio &’s Bizarre Bazaar. It will be December 7-9, so make a note on your calendar. Unless, of course, you have no interest in seeing what 23 local artists have to offer -or- no interest in giving unique, handmade, creative, one-of-a-kind gifts. And, yes, I do know some of the artists who will be there – including Mr. Riley from our frame shop, who painted the image below!
- Local creative Business spotlight – Sticks and Stones Handmade – We have a few businesses in Durango that focus on supporting local creatives. Sticks & Stones features more than 25 artists in their new location. From custom clay works and handmade jewelry to beautiful woodwork, soap, knits and more they have loads of gorgeous work made by local artists. Be sure to stop by 922 Main Avenue to check out their display (and keep returning to see what has changed!)
- New product – Karin BrushMarkers – We’ve been looking forward to getting these guys in the shop for nearly a month now – and they arrived Monday morning! These gorgeous water-based markers are simply stunning. The blend-ability of watercolor, the portability of markers, the gorgeous colors of… a rainbow on steroids! We simply can’t say enough about them. (You’ve been warned, Kristen will gush about them as long as you let her!)
It’s been a lot of work, ramping up for the holidays. However, we have also been enjoying ourselves. As we keep reminding ourselves, don’t forget to take some time out for yourself. Maybe that’s sitting quietly somewhere, enjoying the view and sipping on a hot beverage. Perhaps that means doodling or playing with some paint. However you re-charge, be sure and make the time to do that for yourself! Personally, I’m going to eat a bit of dark chocolate and play with my new sketching fountain pen.
Cheers!
