Life is more fun if you play games.
~ Roald Dahl
I was recently chatting with a customer in the store about playing with art supplies. He picks up materials to play with during breaks at work and during down-time at home. His co-workers comment on the fact that there is “room for improvement.” He readily acknowledged that but quickly followed up with the fact that he doesn’t care – he’s enjoying the process along with the fun and relaxation that it brings into his daily life.
- This week’s artist is – Ya’el Pedroza – who happened to recently come into the Art Supply House. She recently moved to Durango and paints murals and more. She was a delight to chat with and it’s always fun to share a local artist’s work. Check out her website and instagram for even more.
- Here’s a deep dive into the materials used in a variety of canvas and primers.
- Speaking of deep dives – for some reason I was looking up information on the paint color asphaltum and discovered this article, then this one, which somehow led to this one on greens.
- Then, when looking at these mineralogy illustrations, I immediately thought of the colors they could be used to make.

- If you need support when working, an easy way to move around artwork, or just a way to claim a space as yours – a classic tote board could really come in handy! We have a variety of sizes available, along with replacement rubber bands and additional clips.
Art can be an avenue through which we consider serious topics, examine heady issues, and try to impact the world. It doesn’t have to be – definitely not all the time. Art an be personal, a way to escape and recharge, a meditative act. It can help you relax, rejuvenate, and refresh so that you can be your best self. The world needs you, which means the world needs you to make art!
Cheers!
