Alone, together

One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone.
~ Shannon L. Alder

It seems that the more we’ve been separated over the last year, the more we’ve realized the importance of being together. Random conversations at the grocery store, chance encounters along the sidewalk, meandering chats over coffee… Humans are communal creatures and even those of us who are introverts need to interact with others.

  • This week’s artist – Roma Osowo – isan abstract artist who paints as her highest form of self-expression. In an interview she recently said “I get to do something that brings me joy and peace while sharing that with many who connect to my work.” I love the dual nature of art – the blended nature of creation and viewing. Be sure to check out her website and instagram for more!

  • If you want to get out and about, check out this Friday’ Durango Grit Gathering. From 4 to 7 pm, the City will block off 9th and 10th Streets between Main Ave and Narrow Gauge for people to gather  in a socially distanced and masked-up manner. This area will have tables and chairs, entertainment, heaters and lighting. The public will be invited and encouraged to shop at Downtown businesses and to order take out to eat in the event areas. Grit Gatherings are currently scheduled to run until March 12th.

  • Tomorrow would have been Pierre August Renoir’s 180th birthday.
  • As I traveled home yesterday evening, I thought about trying to capture the sunset. Today I stumbled across this tutorial on painting in the golden hour.

  • Whether you want to print on paper or fabric, use a block or screens, we can help out! If you’re just getting started, we have a great screenprinting kit that has everything you need. Simply want to try out a new color? We can help with that, too!

At the Art Supply House we think that art makes the world a better place. We love getting to see it, to hear about your creative journey (celebrations, potholes, speedbumps, and all), and to help honor it through framing. It’s also a treat for us to just interact with you. We’ve been blessed to stay open for most of the last year’s weirdness and to just be available. So many people stop by just to say hi, for which we are grateful. We love the community that we are part of. Thank you for being you and for sharing your art with us. Your art, and you, make the world a better place!

Cheers!

Matthew & the Art Supply House crew
