I long to accomplish a great and noble tasks, but it is my chief duty to accomplish humble tasks as though they were great and noble. The world is moved along, not only by the mighty shoves of its heroes, but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker. ~ Helen Keller |
We’ve been frequently having a conversation that goes something like this:
“I’m so glad you’re here, I was worried. Is the store doing ok?”
“We’re doing fine. Actually, since everyone has been home and had some free time available, we’ve been really busy! The hardest part is that the manufacturers are all behind so it’s really been hard to get products into the store.”
- This week’s artist is – Bradley Kachnowicz – who describes himself as a “painter of nature”. I like that description. His process reminds me of a teacher I once studied under – 30 or more layers of paint. Be sure to check out his website for even more!
- On Friday, head out to FoxFire Farms from 6-9 where Jeff Solon will be playing a jazz – and Back Porch B.B.Q. will be catering.
- Want to check out a local art show? Head over to Animas Chocolate Company to see the Get Real! show – including a piece from our very own Lexis! It’s showing from now until the 27th. (Not that I ever need an excuse to get into a chocolate shoppe.)
- Elizabeth Kinahan‘s new show, Age and Exposure: Travels in Oil on Copper will be displayed at Studio & from September 18-26. There won’t be an opening reception, but you can see the work in person at Studio & as well on online.
- If you’re heading to Studio &, be sure to check out Jake Polster-Sadlon‘s show, COL-O is RAD-O, in The Recess Gallery. It’s on display for the remainder of September.
- Know someone who is missing youth programming at the Durango Public Library? They have Activity Kits available!
- The Durango Drive In has movies playing from Thursday through Sunday evenings! You can get tickets and more information at their website. If you haven’t yet made it to a showing, this weekend is your last chance!
- There are quite a few live music options coming up this week. Check out What’s Happening Durango to see the different shows.
- Need a laugh? Check out the comedy wildlife photography awards finalists. I really like “Hide and Seek”.
- The Durango Arts Center’s Autumn Arts Festival is coming up next weekend! Be sure to check it out on September 19-20.
- Here’s a way to think about your decisions. This could sum up why I live in the Durango area.
- Some eye candy: check out these archives of Ed Ruscha and Dorothea Lange’s photographs.
- Have you ever seen a flamingo eat? It’s pretty weird.
- James Gurney just posted a triad painting challenge, in case you’re looking for a project idea.
- Strathmore has a free online Creative Watercoloring workshop, if you’re interested.
- Even with the frustration of supplies not being readily available, a few projects that we’ve been working on this year have finally worked out. This week’s new product line are the glazes in our clay section! All of the clay has been moved to the back of the store, and we have a few more products ordered that we’re waiting for. Until then, check out the kiln-fired clay and the glazes for them.
Thanks to you, the Art Supply House is doing great. We’ve been really busy and our biggest complaint is that the manufacturers are so behind (they’re busy, too!) that it’s hard for us to get supplies in to the store. Kristen is doing an amazing job (she’s in charge of purchasing) and gets what she can, when she can.
In case you were concerned (this is another thing we hear regularly) – we aren’t going anywhere! The Art Supply House has been here since 2002. We think that art makes the world a better place. We are here to help you make and display your art. The world needs your art!
Cheers!
Matthew & the Art Supply House crew
