Play keeps us vital and alive. It gives us an enthusiasm for life that is irreplaceable. Without it, life just doesn’t taste good.
~ Lucia Capocchione
We’re pretty excited about the art contest that will be launching Friday. After all, it’s art! It’s fun and play and the chance to make something (plus, there will even be prizes). And if you can’t play, at least on occasion, then what’s the point?
- Veryl Goodnight is another local artist. If you haven’t seen her work, you are definitely missing out! She’s a regular in the frame shop and it’s always a delight to see what she brings in! Whether paintings or sculptures her work is just stunning (which would be why she’s won so many awards and been featured in all of the major American art magazines!) Be sure to check out her website to see and learn more about her work.
- The Scrapbook Nook doesn’t have any classes scheduled this weekend, but you can join them on Tuesday at 1 for Open Class Day and Thursday at 1 for Scrapbook Chemistry – if you want to explore all kinds of different materials!
- Local creative Business spotlight – Stitch – We have a few businesses in Durango that focus on supporting local creatives. Stitch is “a contemporary quilt boutique where fresh ideas and inspiration are found in abundance“. Not only are they a wealth of inspiration and knowledge but they always seem to have classes and events going on. If you’re looking for some inspiration, are intrigued in fiber art, or just need a splash of color in your day, check out Stitch at 153 East 15th Street.
- Have you heard of The Sketchbook Project? They organize global, collaborative art projects and their crowd-sourced sketchbook library features 41,290 artists’ books contributed by more than 162,050 creative people from 135+ countries. That’s pretty awesome! The “sketches” can be anything: doodles, observational studies, photomontages, or imaginative works. The artist assigns keywords and search terms so that the content can be discovered online. You can visit the website and search by keyword or theme. And you can join them – if you buy a sketchbook you not only get to participate but that money goes to contine funding the project.
- Maybe you think that Green Chilies go in everything. From eggs to soup to … paper? Yep, you can learn more about green chile paper here. And pick up some of your own if you’re really curious.
- Just as a last reminder, we’re going to be holding 6 art contests in 2019. The first subject will be announced on Friday, so be on the lookout!
We definitely don’t say it enough, but we really appreciate you! We love hearing about your projects, sharing ideas when you’re stuck or brainstorming, seeing your works in process and completed pieces, and generally getting the opportunity to share in your enthusiasm. All of us love working at the store – and while we’re artists ourselves and love framing and art supplies, it’s you who make our work feel like play. Thank you so much for letting us join you on your creative journey!
Cheers!
