The imagination has resources and intimations we don’t even know about. ~ Cynthia Ozick |
I continue to discover new activities and resources in the community, whether they’re new or just tucked out of my routinely visited areas. I’m always surprised how many things are around and available. This week, I thought I’d share some of the goodies that I know about.
- Butterfly Artist Collective
- Durango Arts Center – April is their Creativity Festivity celebration. Here are more classes and events.
- There are quite a few art galleries, like Studio &, who host a gallery walk.
- Create Art & Tea – Artist list, events and classes list
- The Artists Depot, The Painted Playground, and the Artsy Crafty Studio all offer workshops, classes, and special events.
- Get Fused offers goodies for sale, glass fusing classes, and a variety of private party options.
- Durango has a Creative District.
- It also has a Maker Lab full of equipment for various types of projects.
- There’s a Plein Air Painters group in the area.
- The Hive offers so many creative opportunities for youth and community I can’t keep up!
- Fort Lewis offers quite a bit, at least three art galleries.
- The 4 Corners Gem and Mineral Club offers workshops and classes.
- If you’re a musician (or aspire to be), check out Stillwater Music or Jimmy’s Music Supply.
- You can learn to work with clay at Colorado Clay, no matter your experience level.
- The Smiley Building now hosts the ArtRoom, an affordable, collaborative artist workspace open to the public.
- If you want to get your art or photos on a canvas speaker you can work with Spoke Sound, a local company (we have a sample in the store, swing by to check it out.)
- We aren’t the only art/craft supply store in town. We often send people over to the Scrapbook Nook, Beads and Beyond, Durango Hobby, Stitch, and the Durango Quilt Company.
- We are also not the only custom frame shop in town – don’t forget about Affordable Framing and Smart Enterprises.
- If you want to get out of Durango, then Mancos has The Painted Turtle Studio (a community art center) and the Southwest Farm to Yarn Collective.
- There’s live music scattered about town all week. See what’s available here.
- There is even more available, if you look around. Tucked into lots of stores and shops are little treasures from local artists. As an example, we offer wooden stickers at the Art Supply House. They’re made by a local artist (who happens to be Kristen). They look great by themselves but can also be decorated and personalized if you feel like customizing (like the unicorn shown above).
I’m sure there are more resources that I have overlooked or don’t yet know about. We have a wealth of opportunity around us! There is something available for you – or the chance for you to get it started so that others can join in the fun.
As always, the world needs your art (and we have the resources to help make it happen)!
Cheers!
Matthew & the Art Supply House crew
P.S. – We just updated our hours to Tuesday-Saturday from 10-6. Framing is still by appointment.
