They say we don’t even have to be fully sane, that it actually helps if we’re a bit peculiar. I disagree of course. When I listen to the mayhem on the news each day, I realize that artists must be among the few truly balanced people on earth. ~ Richard Schmid |
It’s certainly hard for us to have the Art Supply House closed. We miss chatting with you, seeing completed projects and hearing about upcoming ones. We really hate not being able to help you get the supplies you need. We also have family and friends who are immuno-compromised and who already have respiratory issues. Plus, we generally want to do what’s best for the community – and at the moment that seems to be laying low at home.
Our hearts go out to the students who are struggling to find materials for online classes and to artists who need materials to take advantage of available time. We are still evaluating options for opening in a limited fashion, but are keeping everyone’s health and comfort in mind as we do – and following the governor’s and health department’s advice to stay home. We certainly feel that art is essential – but we also know that our community is creative and will find a way.
- Feel like you’re running low on supplies or inspiration? This could be a great time to try imposing limits. Maybe a limited color palette will spark your creativity. It could also be a good opportunity to use up colors or materials that your normally skip over.
- Not sure what to do with those supplies? Get back to basics and learn your materials through a color chart or a color pyramid!
- Of course, this is an amazing to create your own personal groundhog day.
- Nikon USA is offering 10 classes from the its online school for free during the month of April. The courses range in length from 15 minutes to well over an hour.
I have a whole list of videos to film. This week’s goal is to complete some how-to videos for projects using materials found around the home. Once they’re available I will include links in an email.
The opening quote is from a painting book I’m currently reading. It feels pretty relevant to me, even though it was written in 2013. In the best of times, journaling and sketching help keep me grounded. In, um, not the best of times, it’s even more important. Hopefully you can do something creative, something for yourself. Your art can help keep you happy and healthy. You need your art!
Cheers!
