It’s only an adventure if you’re uncomfortable. ~ Ashley French-Holt |
While I college, I purchased a motorcycle as transportation – and have kept it ever since. There are years when I ride more, and others when I ride less. With the recent warmer weather (and mechanical problems on my vehicle), I have been commuting on the bike more. It’s less comfortable than hopping in a vehicle and going – between temperature changes, road noise, lack of stereo, etc. It’s more work to put on the safety gear and then take it off at my destination. Grocery shopping requires more planning. It brings a grin every trip. It provides a better view and stronger connection to the places I travel through. There are trade-offs, and the benefits outweigh the rewards.

Are you comfortable in your art routines? Choosing the safe materials and techniques? Are you happy with your work? If not, maybe it’s time to push outside of your comfort zone. Try a new medium or approach. Turn your work upside, approach it in a different way, or work in a different location than normal. Habits are the path of least resistance – we do things subconsciously because they’re familiar and comfortable. We can learn as we push outside of our comfort zones, even if we return to them after the experiment. Those tests help us become more fully ourselves. The world needs engaged people. The world needs your art!
Cheers!
