Exercise, prayer, and meditation are examples of calming rituals. They have been shown to induce a happier mood and provide a positive pathway through life’s daily frustrations. ~ Chuck Norris |
It’s been great to see you this week! We’re open and definitely enjoying the return to some sort of “normal”. In case you didn’t hear – we’re open Mon-Sat from 9-6 (regular hours). Monday and Thursday mornings from 9-10 are reserved for high-risk customers. The frame shop is requiring appointments but is fully back open! Curb-side pickup is still available if you prefer that service.
It’s certainly been frustrating these last few months – but isn’t life always frustrating? This time has certainly been more universal, affecting everyone at once. Fortunately, the practice we’ve all had developing patience and growing our calming rituals should benefit us for the rest of our lives.
- This week’s artist is – Jeremy Mann – whose work I recently ran across and it caught my eye. Check out his website for even more works!
- Banksy did something truly beautiful.
- Take a look at work by some picture book makers.
- Looking for some new recipes to try? Check out the Pixar Cooking Channel to cook food from Bao and Ratatouille.
- Don’t feel like cooking and want to bash something instead? Make your own pinata!
- Still stuck at home? Take a virtual tour of Pharaoh Ramesses VI Tomb.
- Or explore these photo collections, one for each state. (You’ll probably see some familiar sights in the Colorado collection. I spotted quite a few in the Kentucky photos – where I grew up.)
- Sometimes you have to let an artist or project circle the airport. It might not be right for you just yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be.
- The book of the week is – Color: A course in mastering the art of mixing colors by Betty Edwards. Yes, the Betty Edwards who wrote Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. This was the book that my color theory class worked through while getting my art degree, and I’ve been carrying it around ever since as a reference. While it focuses on working with paint, the information applies to all materials. Grab a copy in paper or via kindle for your reference if you think it’ll be helpful.
Chuck forgot to mention creative pursuits in his quote above… Painting or drawing are calming rituals for me. If I’m feeling frustrated then I might not want to pull out some art supplies – but after a few scribbles to get the physical memory working then I settle in and put those frustrated thoughts out of mind as I focus on art making. The creative process can be a form of active meditation. This is one of the things I mean when I say, “you need your art!”
Cheers!
