What is so delicious as a just and firm encounter of two, in a thought, in a feeling?
~ Emerson
Snowdown starts tomorrow and you can almost feel it in the air! Of course, it’s also looking like a snowy weekend and you can feel that, too. (And Bob is hanging out at the store just for Snowdown!) Personally, I have some new watercolors, colored pencils, and papers to test out. For one reason or another, it seems like almost everyone we’ve chatted with this week has been excited.
- If you’ve visited Studio &, then you’ve probably seen the work of this week’s artist: Elizabeth Kinahan. She honors animals that are often seen as insignificant with formal portraits. While you might not recognize your barnyard neighbor, her work displays the personality of her subjects. While she enjoys the process, also strives to add beauty and compassion into the world with her art. Additionally, a portion of all her sales are donated to organizations that rescue and protect both wild and domestic animals. Learn more about her on her website and you may be able to catch her with paintbrush in her hand at Studio &.
- The Scrapbook Nook is making both some functional art and some fun art this week! Join the ladies at 10 on Wednesday for a coloring session (back by popular demand – let them know ahead of time that you’re coming so they will be sure to have enough materials on hand) and then at 1 on Thursday to start working on a “What’s Cooking” recipe book!
- Local creative Business spotlight – Durango Quilt Company – We have a few businesses in Durango that focus on supporting local creatives. The Durango Quilt Company has been in business for 27 years! They specialize in having kits for most everything in the store and have approximately 75 quilts on display at all times. Of course, they also have classes available. Swing by and check out Durango Quilty Company in the Blue Building at 21516 Hwy 160 West.
- Friendship, C.S. Lewis believed,“like philosophy, like art, like the universe itself … has no survival value; rather it is one of those things which give value to survival.” But the poetic beauty of this sentiment crumbles into untruth for anyone who has ever been buoyed from the pit of despair by the unrelenting kindness of a friend, or whose joys have been amplified by a friend’s warm willingness to bear witness.
- If you’ve ever been interested in drawing comics – be sure to check out this free (public domain) course book: Famous Artist Cartoon Course. Not interested in comics but want to draw faster? Still lots of great tips for drawing in there. 😀
- If you’ve ever been intrigued by Salvador Dalí, now you can “meet him” at the Salvador Dalí Museum. Curious about some of the thoughts behind his art? Check out this fly-by to see what all the buzz is about.
- We’re still accepting entries for the art contest! Share with us something you love!
- We do our best to try out the different versions to make sure that we’re offering the best options available. This drafting table is a great example. We’ve test different versions from different brands and this one is by far the best quality we’ve run across. We make sure to get the glass top so that it can easily be used as a light table if you want to (though we can also order the black and white tops if you prefer).
Whether you’re celebrating with Snowdown, hiding from or out playing in the snow, I hope the next few days are fabulous for you! I was reminded over the weekend, once again, how amazing it is that we get to live in such a beautiful area. Our after-work and weekend adventures are other people’s vacation trips. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily routine and forget to pause and look around. Take a moment for a deep breath and a look around and remember how great our home is!
Cheers!
