There was nothing to do except to work hard, struggle for food, visit quietly with friends, and wait for peace. ~ paraphrase of Pablo Picasso during the WWII German occupation of Paris |
If your inbox is anything like mine, it’s overrun with emails. I’ve been hearing from companies who haven’t otherwise reached out in 3 years! So I’ll try to keep this helpful and light-hearted.
The Art Supply House is still open, if in a different sort of way. The doors will be closed/locked but if you call or email or contact us we will offer curb-side service. We have a store full of supplies and so many of us now have some time available to pursue those craft projects we’ve been considering. If you need something, let us know. Not sure what you might need at the moment? We also offer gift certificates. You can call and purchase one over the phone and we’ll keep it at the register until you come and pick it up if that’s easiest.
The frameshop in the Art Supply House is not currently accepting frame projects. 🙁 But it seems to be in everyone’s best interest to err on the safe side for the time being. If you have a project already here, we are working on it and you can still pick it up once it’s completed – curbside service!
We’re in the process of putting together an online community/class so that we can keep creating as a group, even from the comfort of our homes. Look out for an email in the next day or two with more information.
There’s a lot of information floating around out there. As a reminder – hop off social media and turn off the news for a bit. It’ll be there when you get back. Take a deep breath, maybe go for a walk outside for some fresh air (nature’s a big place, you can keep space between you and the next person), and definitely do something creative!
- This list is supposedly aimed at projects for kids, but I think they meant “kids of all ages.” I was already planning on doing some of these and will be borrowing a few more.
- There were already a lot of galleries available for viewing online. This article has a list of some more.
- The Vienna Opera (and others) have opened their archives for free streaming if you’d like some music.
- Or maybe you’d enjoy a 5-hour video walk-through of Russia’s Hermitage Museum. (Or maybe just the shorter 1-minute trailer.)
- Too close to home? Check out part of Mars from the Rover that’s been there.
- This conservator demonstrates the materials and methods used by Leonardo da Vinci for his silverpoint, charcoal, and pen-and-ink drawings, back in the day when artists had to make their own art supplies. (youtube video)
- Studio & just launched their online store. Want to support a local gallery and artists? Check it out here.
- Want to practice figure drawing? I know I’ve shared this before, but check out Sketch Daily for drawing practice images.
- This week’s featured products are the art kits we’ve assembled. Want to try a new material out? Just let us know what and we have the kit waiting and ready to go. Various drawing, painting, and calligraphy options are available.
I’m not sure what all we can do to help. But if there is something, call, email, or otherwise get in touch with us and we’ll do our best! Together, we’ll get through whatever the future holds.
Cheers!
Matthew & the Art Supply House crew
