It is not necessary to change a person in order to change their behavior.Just change their environment. ~ James Clear |
I like tools of many kinds. Whether it’s a bit of hardware like hammers and wrenches, software like programs and bits of code, or (of course) art supplies of many kinds. Different projects require different tools. I wouldn’t try to smack a nail into a board with a paintbrush, or apply paint with a chisel. Different people prefer different tools, and use them in different ways. It’s easy to forget that we all have our unique outlooks on the world inhabit.
- This week’s artist is – Devin Finley – a commercial muralist. I know that I commonly show similar art styles/subjects and thought that Devin’s work might be a nice change of pace. Since he works to bring his clients’ visions to life, he uses a wide variety of techniques and tools to create myriad subjects. Check out his website and instagram for more!
- Leonard Baskin would have been 100 on Monday.
- Here’s an Egyptian painters’ palette from roughly 3400 years ago.
- I have fun looking at these Urban Wildlife Photography winners. I believe the chipmunk is winning the race with the wren.
- There are a lot of different paper sizes.
- It’s interesting to see these playgrounds from from the 1900s – especially now that I have the current versions pointed out to me everywhere I go.
- These timelapse videos are fun to watch. Acorn to oak tree in 196 days. Dragonfruit, seed to cactus in 113 days. Mango seed to tree in one year.
- The county fair is this weekend! Art drop off is today – if you’re interested in entering anything.
- In honor of all our aerosol artists – how do you make a green banana yellow? Spray paint it!
- We seem to have an obsession with ruins.
- Tomorrow (Thurs. the 11th) is World Calligraphy Day.
- Every Monday, from 6:30-9, head over to Guild House Games for Chess club. Free, drop in’s welcome. Upstairs at the Main Mall.
- There are classes/workshops/projects available at Create Art and Tea, the Durango Arts Center, and the Scrapbook Nook. There are a lot more things happening that I don’t include – so if you’re ever looking for something to do, start at WhatsHappeningDurango.com
- There’s live music scattered about town all week. Like tomorrow’s concert in the Three Springs Plaza, and Friday at Fox Fire Farms. See what else is available here.
- Montana makes some of the best spray paints available. We keep the Black line on hand – which refers to the can pressure and type of paint. They come in quite a variety of colors, which you can see a sampling of in the photo below. Need to change the color of something (like a green banana)? The Montana Black spray paints can help you get it done!
Not only do I enjoy collecting new-to-me tools, but I enjoy exploring different ways to use them. Fumbling through the learning curve of a new material, tool, or approach is always awkward but that new skill might be
beneficial to a future me. It also helps me see the world in a different way, including other people in it. Maybe I’ll discover why the people who do that one type of project always request that one material – after I try it for myself. The world needs your art, because through it, you learn more about yourself and the world!
Cheers!
