Enjoy the process

Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun.
~ Randy Pausch

If I’ve (Matthew) has ever helped you at the register, you’ve certainly heard me say some version of either “Have fun!” or “Enjoy the process!” I try to remind everyone that, even if we’re making deliberate work or conveying a serious message, we can still enjoy the process. It’s easy to get caught up in whatever we’re doing and forget to have fun.

  • This week’s artist is – Javier Pérez – whose work I recently ran across – it made me chuckle so I figured it would be perfect for today. I can’t imagine him making this and not enjoying the process! Check out his website and instagram for more!

  • Francisco Goya would have been 276 today.
  • Reality has a surprising amount of detail.
  • Doodles from JRR Tolkien. This makes me think of how helpful a sketchbook practice  can be – to help collect those little piec
  • es that stitch together to become something later. Here are 5 steps of the Creative Process – from today’s featured artist.
  • Friday is the First Friday Art Show at Create Art and Tea. Swing by from 5-7 to chat with local artists Yvonne Holland, Cheryl Roberts Lee, and James Lutomski – in support of Great Old Broads for Wilderness with musical guest Tom Klema.
  • The Scrapbook Nook has a week full of classes and projects, if you’re looking for something creative to do. Call them to reserve your spot.
  • There’s live music scattered about town all week. See what’s available here.
  • We try to keep a variety of pastels on hand, in both oil and soft. It seems that if you like pastel, you love it – but if you don’t care for it, you almost hate it. If you’re on the love side of the spectrum, check out what we have on hand, whether in stick, pencil, set or individual forms.

Even when we’re making serious work – we should keep in mind that we’re creating something from nothing –  bringing a whole new thing into existence. That’s amazing! When we are working diligently, we need to take a break – perhaps by playing with some random, fun projects in our sketchbook between in-depth work sessions. Laughter is always good medicine. Remember, the world needs you and your art!

Cheers!
