Enjoy what you’ve got

While you are upon earth, enjoy the good things that are here.

Enjoy what you’ve got

  • This week’s artist is – Andrew McCarthy – who is just some guy with a telescope (and a camera), producing some out of this world photography. Check out his website and instagram for more!

  • Thomas Hart Benton would have been 133 on Friday.
  • Elizabeth Kinehan’s new show, Terre, is opening at Studio & this Friday and will be up for a week. Reception is Friday from 5-9.
  • In case you’re curious, this is how many people are in space right now.
  • Here’s a closer look at the moon, when it seems to waver in the sky (libration).
  • Here’s one of the events that I didn’t include in last week’s email: There are free Zentangle classes every Wednesday at the pagosa springs senior center at 1:15pm.
  • Hermosa Coffee is looking for artists for the Hermosa Art Market. It will be open to as many artists as can fit. There will be no fees or commissions. It’s currently planned for every last Sat of the month: 3/26, 4/30, 5/28,6/25. Reach out to Lindsey (owner of Hermosa Coffee) for more info.
  • How do you know paintings in a museum are innocent? Because they were framed!
  • Want to get your hands dirty? The City of Durago Parks and Rec Department invites you to join them at Santa Rita Park to plant trees for Arbor Day, this Friday at 10.
  • They are offering an Easter Egg Scramble on Saturday at 9:30.
  • Create Art and Tea’s event calendar feels like it gets busier every time I look at it!
  • There are quite a few events available for everyone at the Durango Arts Center.
  • The Scrapbook Nook has a week full of classes and projects, if you’re looking for something creative to do. Call them to reserve your spot.
  • There’s live music scattered about town all week. See what’s available here.
  • Our customer appreciation day is coming up in a few weeks – on Saturday the 30th. Do you have your bag ready?
  • It’s Spring Cleaning time! Do you have art supplies, tools, or other materials that you aren’t using? Drop them off at the Art Supply House and we’ll pass them along to organizations who support people through creative pursuits. We’re collecting until the end of the month.

Enjoying what you have doesn’t mean overdoing it. We tend to enjoy things more when we stop before “too much”. Enjoying what we have, we can take the time to soak in it. To appreciate it. To feel the pleasure for what it is. We don’t need to chase pleasure, to become a hedonist. Just enjoy what’s here in front of us. Notice it, soak in it. Savor it. Let it inform your creativity. The world needs your art!

Cheers!
