Loving what you do

Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.
~ Julia Child

I recently ran across a couple of articles talking about finding your work fascinating. That one talks more about the thought processes we can work through to find anything interesting (the example given is digging a hole). Fortunately, we have a lot of say in what we do with our lives. Personally, I love both business and art – so working at the Art Supply House is ideal for me!

  • This week’s artist is – Seamus Wray – I stumbled across this series recently and thought I should share it. Be sure to check out his instagram for more of his work.

  • The Durango Art Brigade is looking for artists!
  • On Friday, head out to FoxFire Farms from 6-9 where Lacey Black will be playing easy listening Americana on piano and guitar – and Back Porch B.B.Q. will be catering.
  • Saturday from 12-5, artist Michael Billie will be live demo-ing his art at Create Art & Tea (in the DAC) and his work will be available at their sidewalk sale!
  • We are so lucky to have drawing.
  • Or, the importance of hobbies.
  • I grew up with a drive-in theater just a few miles from my house so I have fond memories of summer evenings there. It’s not exactly the same but you can watch some movies this weekend at the Durango Drive In from Thursday through Sunday evenings! You can get tickets and more information at their website.
  • The Durango Arts Center’s Autumn Arts Festival is coming up next month! Be sure to set some time aside on September 19-20 to check it out.
  • This weekend is the Four Corners Motorcycle Rally. If you want to join in the fun, check out their website for more information. If you want to avoid the festivities, you still might want to check out their website to know where not to be.
  • The Durango Book Rescue is giving away thousands of FREE books this Sunday from 11-3 at the Downtown Security Storage. Thank you for reading!
  • I think that a bag of words is also invaluable as visual artists!
  • Here are 5 lessons learned from a 30 day figure drawing challenge.
  • Oil painting at home? Gamblin has some advice about solvent-free painting.
  • The Art Supply House will be CLOSED on Monday in honor of Labor Day.
  • This week’s book is Art/Work – Everything You Need to Know (and Do) As You Pursue Your Art Career by Heather Darcy Bhandari  and Jonathan Melber. You can’t go wrong with the definitive, must-have guide to pursuing an art career. Get your digital or paper copy today.

As the one doing the admin work at the Art Supply House, I often find myself stuck in front of the computer, doing paperwork. I also enjoy creating systems and coming up with ways to streamline processes. So even doing the recurring paperwork doesn’t end up being drudgery. Of course, that doesn’t mean that I want to do it all the time! I try and make time for creative pursuits as well. After all, if I don’t make time for my art, I won’t be able to show up in live as my full self. The world needs the best version of me. Just like you. You need your art, and the world needs you!

Cheers!

Matthew & the Art Supply House crew
