You’re not done yet

If I’m writing my book … that means on some level I believe in a future where this book could exist.
~ R. O. Kwon

I’ve got a friend who’s going through a rough patch – all their family moved away, it looks like their job is being downsized, they’re struggling financially, and the future is just uncertain. During a recent chat I told them that “they aren’t done yet” and reminded them that, “this too, shall pass”. Whether it’s the best of times or the worst of times, it won’t last.

  • This week’s artist is – Ali Cavanaugh – who works in watercolors. Her portraits captured my attention when I first saw them. Looking at them makes me wonder what her subjects were thinking. Check out her website and instagram for more!

Timing matters. Whether or not something is deemed a “failure” all depends on when performance is measured. Let’s say an author gets a book deal and it takes three years to get it published. One year into the project, the book doesn’t yet exist, so it looks like the project is a failure. Two years into the project the book is still incomplete. A failure. 2 years, 11 months, no book available. A failure. Three years – success!

Same project. Different timeframe. This idea applies to many areas of life. You’re not failing. You’re just in the middle of succeeding. You, and your artwork, are always a work in progress. You’re making the world a better place! Keep on keeping on. The world needs your art!

Cheers!
